Data storage solutions

Store. Protect. Archive. Recover.

Modern data environments require different technologies for different requirements.

Arkicon provides information and expertise around professional SAN, NAS and DAS storage, backup, LTO tape and long-term archiving solutions.

Our objective is to help customers and partners understand the available technologies and identify the right approach for their data protection and storage requirements.

The right technology for the right data

No single storage technology is ideal for every use case. SAN, NAS and DAS systems provide fast and flexible access to online data, while LTO tape offers an efficient option for backup, offline copies and long-term retention. Backup and archive software connects these technologies into manageable workflows.

Arkicon focuses on explaining these options and how they can complement each other.

Storage is:
more than capacity

Arkicon Technology areas

SAN / NAS / DAS Storage

Professional storage platforms for primary data, shared storage, virtualisation, backup repositories and high-capacity environments.

Depending on the application, solutions can provide block, file or direct-attached access, high availability, snapshots, replication and scalable capacity.

Backup & Data Protection

Backup creates independent copies of business-critical data and is a fundamental element of every data protection strategy.

Modern backup infrastructures can combine SAN/NAS storage, software-defined storage, LTO tape and backup software to balance recovery speed, retention and cost.

LTO Tape & Automation

LTO tape is designed for high-capacity data storage, backup and long-term retention. Tape media can be physically removed from the online environment and be used to create offline copies.

Solutions range from standalone LTO drives to automated tape libraries with multiple drives and hundreds or thousands of cartridges.

Archiving & Long-Term Retention

Backup and archive serve different purposes. While backup focuses primarily on recovery, archiving is designed to preserve data efficiently over long periods and make it available when required.

Archive environments can use SAN/NAS, LTO/LTFS tape and cloud storage, depending on access frequency, retention requirements and data volume.

Air Gap & Ransomware Protection

An offline copy adds an important independent layer to a data protection strategy. Removable LTO media can be physically separated from production networks, creating a physical air gap.

Combined with appropriate backup policies, encryption, WORM media and off-site storage, tape can strengthen cyber-resilience and recovery preparedness.

Data protection lifecycle

A simple way to view modern data protection is as a continuous lifecycle:

⤷ 01
Store

Keep data available and accessible.

⤷ 02
Protect

Reduce risks to online data.

⤷ 03
Backup

Create independent copies.

⤷ 04
Archive

Preserve data efficiently for the long term.

⤷ 05
Recover

Restore data when it is needed.
